New Work: ‘The Art of Andy Warhol 2012 Calendar’
Looking to add a little graphic pop to your walls in the new year? Pentagram’s Eddie Opara and his team have designed The Art of Andy Warhol 2012 Calendar, a 16-month wall calendar that celebrates the work of the iconic Pop artist. The coming year marks the 25th anniversary of Warhol’s death (on February 22, 1987) and the calendar, authorized by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and published by Abrams, highlights many of the artist’s most popular and recognizable paintings, prints, drawings and collages, in combination with less familiar works.
The designers created a contemporary framework for the images, juxtaposing graphic motifs from various stages of Warhol’s career and spotlighting unusual details. The cover of the calendar features Warhol’s signature Banana (1966) printed on a reflective surface that resembles Mylar. Each month features a lively quote by the artist (“Progress is very important and exciting in everything except food,” “Pop is for everyone”). As a bonus, the wall calendar also includes an 24” by 36” poster of Warhol’s “Hamburger,” suitable for framing, and image pages are perforated so they can be ripped out and saved. The designers also created a spiral-bound engagement calendar.
Opara and his team previously designed the 2011 Warhol calendar and are currently completing the 2013 edition.
